Our mission as a couple has always been to bring a little bit of Heaven on Earth. Hospitality, beauty, and laughter run deep through the veins of our family. A few years ago, we were fortunate enough to afford a little piece of undeveloped wilderness on the bluffs that we thought was quite heavenly. Wanting to share it with others, we built a meager little ‘garage house’ on the south end to accommodate us and our four children.

As we constructed the building, the ideas began to flow (along with the expenses), and after a while it became clear we were in this for the long haul. We realized we wanted to take better advantage of the expansive views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca on the north end of the property. So, we built a little treehouse near the edge of the bluffs, initially for our kids, all of whom were rapidly approaching adulthood—a small, inexpensive dwelling, close to mom and dad—what better way for them to explore their independence? Once the construction was finished, however, we were awestruck by the results.

It turned out incredible, we couldn’t believe it!

As our lives continued to change, we began wondering how we were going to retire. Hans was pastoring a small church, and Bev was a traveling notary. We loved the life we had but it never afforded us much wiggle room with finances. If we wanted to go out to dinner, for example, we’d have to check the bank account first, and Bev would break out her pile of coupons to determine where we would eat. As we were considering and praying about all this, Bev had the idea: “What if we rented out our little treehouse…?’

Well, the rest is history. Bev, being the hardworking, creative woman that she is, jumped headfirst into the Short Term Rental world. And almost immediately, our humble little treehouse blew up! In a matter of weeks, we were booked up through the summer and then it just kept going and going. Since then, we have continued the pattern of buying, decorating, and uploading properties under the name Travel Experience Lodging, and have brought our adult children on board to work with us in building and maintaining these properties--talk about a slice of Heaven!
